Hemorrhage: EPL

Early Pregnancy Loss (EPL) due to uterine atony

Hemorrhage from EPL, although rare, may be associated with morbidity and mortality if not treated in a timely manner1,2

  • EPL includes both intentional and unintentional pregnancy termination and may include dilation and curettage (D&C)3
  • As of 2015, in the US, the overall miscarriage rate is reported at 15 to 20%4
  • Though uterine hemorrhage is a rare complication (occurring in <1% of all abortions), it can occur as a result of uterine atony among other causes2
